Hmm... There seems to be a lot of references to many games: the carrier is inspired from the Vic Viper, colours and shapes make think about Tron, Tempest mixed with RayStorm and there's a ship that looks like Arkanoid big ship.
The game is developed by a french team (website here ), Game side, and they're from Lyon if I'm correct.

I think you missed the most obvious reference: Silpheed. The big motherships are textbook examples (not to say ripoffs) of silpheedesque design, with just a variation in the colour palette.

And that life bar (?) looks pretty much Thunder Forcey to me.

yes....Silpheed , you'ra right .
it's clear that the grphics of this game are inspired from Silpheed.
But there are only a few screens and it's diffcult to say anything.
Anyway the game seems good promising also because a pc version is planned.

the designers say on their website that they were influenced by sylpheed.
They also speak about a camera button : you can choose top or side view at any time...seems strange to me...

That's perfectly normal because I never played Silpheed.

Silpheed was the MegaCD's best game.
It was the only game I liked to play on this MegaCD....

About Silpheed, this is not an inspiration nor a rip-off. In fact the prototype was a kind of collaboration between us and game arts. There is nothing official with game arts so the project code name is always HILL Project but if a publisher is kind enough to sign with us and to buy right, a silpheed sequel is maybe possible in the spectrum of the reality.

I cross my fingers :)
Hello there, nice to have you with us. All the best for your project, it looks really promising.

Could you tell us more about that possibility to toggle between top and side views? I too am quite intrigued by that. Will it be a sudden switch from one view to another or will it feature a seamless camera rotation? In the latter case, will the action freeze or will the player still have to dodge bullets during the transition? How will it affect the general gameplay?

And pleeeeeease - if you ever come up with a sequel to Silpheed, keep the crunchy 'game aova' VO of the original :)

PS : 'Lama'? Are you in any way related to Jeff Minter? :D

Very interesting...
Are you working on a PC,PS2 and PSP version at the same time?
Are you able to say when a demo will be available?

The view switching system is a little difficult too explain. You can switch from a view a la Silpheed to a sidescrolling view at any time. There will be different group of enemies that will follow or not the gameplay plan (which depend of the view), they are identify by colors. Some enemies will be always in the same plane that the player (they follow the gameplay plane when the player switch the view), some will be always on the sidescrolling plane and other on the perspactive plane. The last group (the most difficult) don't follow any plane, so then player must have a good precision and timing to shoot them when they cross the gameplay plane.
If you don't understand the system, it's normal, it's better to see it in video ;)
please, please lama tell me that you have thinked of a DS version of the game !!
you talk right about the think i hope to find on this console !! no more switch but 2 views of the game in real time.

nintendo just brought us a new way of thinking about games, and you talk about a PSP version o__O?

(for example, SCEA forbid the 2D game, huge barrier unfortunatly).
?

ps2 is the system that gets the most 2d games, i dont understand what you're saying.

I hope sony understand that there're still a lot of people interested in 2D games....and I hope a lot of games on the PSP will be 2D.....Vampire Chronicle is a very good start :D

Lama, I agree with you as you tell that the PSP seems to be a better hardware for supporting Hill Project than the DS. Shmup is accuracy and responsiveness requiring, in that sense the touch screen cannot be as suitable as a regular stick for such a game. Moreover, what could we expect from two separated screns compared with a single screen twice wider which can display a better resolution than a single DS screen is able to do?
These considerations apart, now comes the stunning question: when do you plan to announce Hill Project for a public release, and when could we expect to find the game on shelves? ;)

I can't make out what YOU're trying to say. Every single next-gen system just zapped 2D games. Ok, nice to see some ports (neo geo among others) but let's face it: 2D is almost dead for good on those systems.
Not seeing this is lacking relevence.

Furthermore, seems like you're not aware of the fact that SCEA officially announced months ago that 2D support on PS2 was dead and that they wouldn't do any other 2D game on their systems.

OMFG!!11!1!1

Period.

It's more than surprising to find a 2D fighter as soon as the PSP is launched but, who knows, it might be giving them some feedback to put some money on 2D development. Let's see how the sales are on.
